A community within the Southern California metropolis of San Diego, the Talmadge neighborhood is located about seven miles northeast of the downtown area, just east of Highway 15. Talmadge was named after Norma, Natalie and Constance Talmadge, three sisters who were silent-film movie stars in the 1920s who opened the Talmadge Park real estate development in 1927. Talmadge and nearby Kensington are sometimes grouped together as one neighborhood for planning purposes.
Children living in Talmadge are assigned to schools in the San Diego Unified School District. The only school physically within Talmadge is the Herbert Hoover High School. Talmadge is situated just south of Qualcomm Stadium, home to San Diego's NFL team, the Chargers, as well as to National University, an Ikea home furnishings store, the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, and San Diego State University.
