A community of the city of San Diego in the southernmost part of California, Kensington is a neighborhood that was founded in 1910. The neighborhood borders Normal Heights to the west, Talmadge to the east and City Heights to the south, and it lies east of Interstate 14, south of Interstate 8, west of Fairmount Avenue and north of El Cajon Boulevard.

Many of the street names in the community, like the name of Kensington itself, are named after locations in England. Kensington is just six and a half miles northeast of downtown San Diego, just off Highway 15. It lies just south of Qualcomm Stadium, home to San Diego's NFL team, the Chargers. It's also just south of National University, an Ikea home furnishings store, the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, and San Diego State University.

The only school physically located in the community is Franklin Elementary School. Hoover Senior High School, though not technically within the community, is just minutes away. Children attend middle and high schools elsewhere in San Diego. Kensington's closest park is the Ward Canyon Neighborhood Park on the western side of Highway 15.

The community's location also puts residents just minutes from all that San Diego has to offer -- from some of the world's most beautiful beaches to world-class education centers and hospitals to a variety of businesses and industries and top-notch research institutions. There are several military bases and posts in the area as well, and the area has a strong base of military members. San Diego International Airport is easily reachable and offers flights to dozens of domestic and international destinations.
