Sorrento Mesa Information & Highlights
Sorrento Mesa is a community in the city of San Diego, located about 14 mile north of downtown San Diego near to the Southern California border with the Pacific Ocean. It is located just east of Interstates 5 and 805, and is very near to the campus of the University of California San Diego. It is also just north of the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
The community is bordered to the east by Mira Mesa, to the north by the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve, to the west by Torrey Pines and the University of California San Diego campus, and to the south by University city and the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. It's also referred to as the Sorrento Valley.
Most residents commute for work to other neighborhoods of San Diego. The neighboring Mira Mesa is home to a variety of business ventures and many residents are employed here. Mira Mesa is the home of some major companies such as Qualcomm and TelCentris which both have their headquarters in the community, and smaller operations for companies like Sony Online Entertainment, Texas Instruments, Vulcan Materials Co., Gen-Probe, and Quintiles. Just northwest of the community is the famed Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course, which likes along the ocean's shores. Scripps Green Hospital is in Torrey Pines and there is a Scripps Health Center on the UCSD campus. The nearest public high school to here is the University City High School. The community has its own El Camino Memorial Park.
