San Carlos Information & Highlights

A mostly upper middle-class neighborhood, San Carlos is a community that lies within the city of San Diego, on the city's eastern side. It's a mostly residential community very near to the large Mission Trails regional park, and it is bordered by Del Cerro, Lake Murray, Tierrasanta, Navajo, the city of La Mesa and the Mission Trails park. It was named after its developer, Carlos Tavares.

San Carlos is the home to  Cowles Mountain, where the highest peak within the San Diego city limits can be found at more than 1,590 feet. The community has its own news provider, the Mission Times Courier newspaper. San Carlos has its own community council, which meets once a month at the San Carlos Library.

Children in the community are assigned to schools within the jurisdiction of the San Diego Unified School District. In San Carlos, this includes Daillard Elementary School, Green Elementary School, Pershing Middle School, and Patrick Henry High School, which also is the  school for teenagers in the nearby communities of San Carlos, Allied Gardens and Del Cerro. San Diego State University is the nearest higher education facility, just a few miles south of here.

The neighborhood has its own community park and recreation center as well as the San Carlos Golf Course and the Misison Trails Golf Course. The San Carlos Library serves the needs of locals, and shopping can be found at the San Carlos Shopping Center. Alvarado Hospital and the UCSD Child-Adolescent Psych Hospital are found just south of the community along Interstate 8.
