San Elijo Hills Information & Highlights

A master-planned community in San Marcos, the area of San Elijo Hills is a developing community in the northern part of San Diego County. It lies about 40 miles north of San Diego and about 100 miles south of Los Angeles. It is less than 10 miles inland from the shores of the Pacific Ocean. The community makes up an area of just under 2,000 acres.

The plan for the community will eventually include a 28 single-family-home neighborhoods and five condo/apartment buildings, a 70-acre town center with a community park, an elementary and middle school and a town square with retailers and cafes. As of 2010, the community was about 75% complete, with about 7,500 residents and 2,550 occupied homes. Upon completion, there will be about 3,400 homes in the community. Other plans include 18 miles of hiking and biking trails, Double Peak Park, with 200 cares, and an equestrian center.

Children living in the community will be served by public schools in the San Marcos Unified School District. Two schools lie within the community, San Elijo Elementary, which has an enrollment of about 1,100 students, and San Elijo Middle School. Older students will attend high school in San Macros, about four miles away, at the San Marcos High School, which has an enrollment with a little over 2,000 students. Also just four miles in San Marcos is the California State University's San Marco campus, a public, four-year institution that has about 9,000 students studying 44 undergraduate programs, 10 graduate programs and a doctorate in education.

San Elijo already has a number of community organizations and events, including the Academy at San Elijo Hills, a community youth sports organization, a women's club and a homeowners association that sponsors events like summer concerts in the square, an Octoberfest, a tree-lighting ceremony in December, an Independence Day celebration and an Easter egg hunt.
